We are a couple from the UK travelling the world who strongly believe that anyone can travel if they really want to. It doesn’t matter where you are from, how much money you have or what experience of travelling you have, there is enough information and enough friendly helpful people in the world to help you.
Our job and the purpose of this site is simple, we want to provide inspiration through regular blogs and information to inspire and help people to make the decision, or not, to travel. It is important to presence the fact that travelling isn’t for everyone.
We began our backpacking trip on the 10th January 2017 after being granted our working holiday visa. After that, the world really will be our oyster! No more looking forward to holidays, no more clock watching and no more rat race. Yes of course, it was scary having to sell all of our belongings, leaving our careers and colleagues behind and most of all leaving behind our friends and family. We are both very close to our family and friends and that was by far the toughest part but with instant messaging, social media and video calling, we have managed to overcome the upset and feelings we had when we said goodbye.
We would love you to share your knowledge, thoughts and experiences with us and of course we will do the same with you.
OUR TRAVEL GOALS
To complete our ever increasing bucket list!
To master the art of sustainability. We want to be able to travel until we don’t want to travel anymore and our bucket list is complete. In order to do that, we know our initial savings will not last so we will have to learn how we can generate more or at least as much as we spend.
We both want personal growth, travelling will help us to learn a lot about ourselves and a lot about others. We want to learn new languages, learn about other cultures and history and learn how to travel. This may sound silly but travelling is an art, especially to be able to do it sustainably.
Make friends and meet people from as many cultures, religions and backgrounds as possible. We want to fill our friends lists on Facebook! The world is full of fascinating people and we are a firm believer that people, places, cultures and religion shouldn’t be judged until you experience it for yourself. Then you can make your own mind up whilst appreciating everyone has different opinions and yours isn’t always right.
Hey guys, I’m Kieron. Just wanted to let you know a bit about myself so you know who it is you are looking at!
I was born in South Wales in 1985 and grew up in Blackwood, South Wales where I lived until 2012. Originally I was training to become a solicitor which I thought was my calling in life until I discovered how much desk work this involved. That would have driven me insane!!
I left college to become an Assistant General Manager of a hotel at the age of 17 where I stayed for 5 years before moving to the care sector where I have been for the last 9 years and loved every minute of it, well not quite every minute as everyone has a bad day but a lot of those minutes!
I have an amazing family and I am very close to them despite living 200 miles away from most of them! The thought of leaving them is tough and I know the day of leaving is not going to be good but there is never going to be a good time. I am just glad there is FaceTime and Skype so we can keep in touch. I am also blessed that they are supportive of everything I do albeit not too pleased they won’t see me for some time.
Kieron’s Greatest Achievement
This has to be climbing ‘Kili’ to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. This was the hardest 9 days of my life and it had a massive impact on my life. I was able to raise over £11,000 for the charity due to the amazing generosity of friends, family and work colleagues. I was also blessed with meeting a group of people that are inspirational and life long friends. I would 100% recommend this experience to everyone but don’t expect it to be pleasant, there is no “glamping” on the side of a mountain and no such thing as privacy! Not the best when you get mountain bug, but that’s enough of that!
Places Kieron Has Been
I have been very fortunate in my life to visit some amazing places. At 17, without my mothers blessing, I went to Australia for 9 weeks and absolutely loved it. This was the holiday that got me hooked on travelling and I have wanted to do it ever since! 2 years later I spent 8 weeks in South Africa on a game reserve, Shamwari, doing conservation work. This was a life changing experience and one I will never forget (www.worldwideexperience.com/shamwari-game-reserve). Due to my career, the past 11 years I have had to settle for holidays albeit to some amazing places. Thailand is an absolute favourite for me!! I cannot wait for our journey around the world to start!
Kieron’s Favourite Quotes
“Money is numbers and numbers never end. If it takes money to be happy, your search for happiness will never end.” – Robert Nesta Marley
“One day you will wake up and there wont be any more time to do the things you’ve always wanted. Do it now.” – Paulo Coelho
Hello guys and girls! I’m Lewis and here’s a little bit about myself.
Places I’ve lived… There’s quite a few… I was born in the South East of England in Chatham which is in Kent and lived there until my 1st Birthday. We moved to Dartford which is also in Kent. I lived there until I was 20 and then moved to Welling, Kent for about a year. I then moved to Greenhithe, Kent (the same town as the biggest shopping centre in Europe, Bluewater!). I then moved to Bow, East London for a year. Then back to Bexleyheath, Kent and now back to my home town of Dartford! I’ve been about…!
After school, I went to college to re-sit some GCSEs where I wasn’t happy with my grade. After that, if I am honest with you, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do. I worked at ASDA (it’s a UK supermarket) for a few years until I wrote to a few recruitment agencies asking for their help to find me a ‘proper’ job. One of the agencies got me in to register and it so happens they had a position for me at their company typing CVs!
I stayed at the company for 9 years, working my way up from Typist, to Accounts Assistant, to Team Administrator, to Senior Administrator and finally, Administration Manager.
Travelling the world always sounded like a dream that would never come true, that’s until I met Kieron. He also has wanted to travel the world, so he gave me the kick up the bum I needed so get the ball rolling!
Lewis’s Greatest Achievement
My greatest achievement has to be running the London Marathon in 2015. In 2014, I decided to enter the ballot, purely out of boredom, I didn’t think for a minute that I would actually get accepted! I began training and quickly discovered that I had an issue with my left foot, my right knee and my groin. Advice from various physiotherapists was to not take part but I had raised so much money already, I just couldn’t let everyone down.
The longest I had managed to run whilst training was 9 miles… I had to run 26.2 miles on the big day!! I decided to take part and do the best I could and after a lot of pain, sweat, tears and pain, I managed it! It took me just over 5 hours to complete.
Places Lewis Has Been
I’ve been very lucky to go to some amazing places for holidays. I’ve been to Spain, America, France and more recently Thailand with Kieron.
Thailand probably has to be the place that sealed the deal for us both! After a lengthy discussion whilst sunbathing with a few cocktails, we decided that we would quit our jobs and begin our adventure around the world. We are so excited and can’t wait!
